Our story

In late 2001, God began to move on the heart of Toby Risner about leaving his assistant/youth pastor role to start a new church fellowship. After much prayer and seeking of the Scriptures, he acknowledged that it was indeed the call of God on his life to step away from his position after 11 years and venture into this new work. With the blessing of his wife and daughters, he led a new church plant on the southeast side of Indianapolis. God brought together a group of people who had met in a home Bible study years earlier. They began to meet weekly to pray and ask the Lord about when and where to meet. After many weeks, it was clear that the Lord had called them to begin Sunday Services at a school in southeast Indianapolis, and Calvary Christian Fellowship of Indianapolis was born in October of 2003.

We continued to meet at the school until the spring of 2005, at which time we moved to the Family Fun and Fitness Center in Hancock County on US 40. Then in December 2013, we purchased our current building in Cumberland, Indiana.

The small prayer group has grown but the intimacy and closeness remain. We have become a family and we often serve as a hospital for the hurting where love and compassion abound.

Board of Elders

Our elders are called to be undershepherds of Jesus for His flock, offering proper spiritual nutrition (Biblical teaching), opportunities for soul rest and refreshment, and spiritual restoration, direction, comfort, and protection.

The elders who are among you I exhort, I who am a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that will be revealed:  Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock…
