God has called CCF to be an equipping church. Our two guiding passages are Ephesians 4:11-16 and Colossians 1: 28-29. God desires for us to be a church that not only brings people into the kingdom but then helps them to grow into maturity. Maturity in the Christian sense is always measured by Christ-likeness. So the goal of our ministry is to help a person become like Jesus Christ.
In the fall 2001, God began to move on the heart our Pastor, Toby Risner, about leaving his position as Assistant Pastor / Youth Pastor at Horizon Christian Fellowship in Indianapolis, Indiana. After much prayer and seeking of the Scriptures, he acknowledged that it was indeed the call of God on his life to step away from Horizon after 11 years. With the blessing of his wife and daughters, he led a new church plant on the southeast side of Indianapolis. God brought together a group of people who had met in a home Bible study years earlier. They began to meet weekly to pray and ask the Lord about when and where to meet. After many weeks, it was clear that the Lord had called them to begin Sunday Services at a school in southeast Indianapolis and Calvary Christian Fellowship of Indianapolis was born in October of 2003.
We continued to meet at the school until the spring of 2005 at which time we moved to the Family Fun and Fitness Center in Hancock County on US 40. In December 2013, we purchased our current building at 79 S. 700 West in Hancock County.
Our supreme desire is to know Christ and be conformed to His image by the power of the Holy Spirit. We are not a denominational church, nor are we opposed to denominations. We shun emphasis on non-essential doctrinal differences that often lead to division in the Body of Christ. We have an expository teaching model and teach the Bible in its entirety. We do this for two reasons: one, to avoid teaching moral lessons couched as biblical truth. While good morals are certainly important and desired, we don’t want to try to fit the Bible into what we think those lessons should be. Two, we avoid only teaching those things that are our own pet ideas and beliefs. By walking through the Bible, line by line, we strive to give proper emphasis to the things God emphasizes.
The small prayer group has grown but the intimacy and closeness remain. We have become a family and we often serve as a hospital for the hurting where love and compassion abound.
To God be the glory!
